What is the best Christmas gift for an English girlfriend?

I am currently dating a girl who lives in England and will be visiting her for the Christmas Holiday. I am drawing some serious blanks when thinking about the right things to bring with me to make the holiday great. Any ideas? Crazy ones are welcome as well. Also I will be meeting her family for the first time, any recommendations on a good family gift?What is the best Christmas gift for an English girlfriend?I'm from the UK and I fly to the US every year. The thing you need to think about first is weight and liquid. Your luggage will be restricted, and flying to the UK you won't be allowed to carry any liquid in hand luggage that's over 100ml. Bigger liquid things can go in stowed luggage but you run the risk of it being smashed.



My suggestion for both is something light, not too bulky, and not liquid, that you wouldn't be able to get over here. I have a few suggestions.



When I came back last time I bought an unusual small Christmas dish for my neighbour. It has a handle and holds sweets. It was an American brand, very common in the US but not here. I just wrapped it well and carried it in hand luggage so it survived the journey. She loved it, and I think something like that would be ideal for the family.



For your girlfriend, is there an American jewellery company that makes modern charm bracelets? They are all the rage here at the moment. There's a UK company called Pandora which is extremely popular and lots of men are buying gifts from there this Christmas. The idea is you buy the bracelet with one charm now, and add charms for special occasions like birthdays, Valentine's day etc.



You may be able to find those in the duty free shop at the airport but I wouldn't risk it - buy in advance.



Do you support a particular American football or baseball team? We can't get those items here so anything from those stores is always good I find (for example my husband bought me a little Cubby bear in a Cubs hoodie which I love!).



And finally, think about a special Christmas ornament both for your girlfriend and her family. Americans do lovely and very unusual ones which again, we would find hard to get over here. I bought my step-daughters little tree ornaments from 'the Nightmare Before Christmas' which they love. Small gifts like that will be really appreciated and don't cost too much - or take up too much room.
