Western civilization has made Christmas into something completely unchristian.
How can we make Christmas into what it is supposed to be?Have we perverted Christmas into a time to hole up with your nuclear family and celebrate excess and riches?Well, maybe we could start celebrating Christmas at some time near when Christ was really born. He wasn't born on the Winter Solstice. That was the day that pagans celebrated the birth of the God, and presumably, Christians merely adopted that holiday for theirs.
So, find out when Christ was really born and celebrate then. Perhaps that way, Christmas begins to take on a bit more honesty.
Then, find ways to celebrate that aren't all about spending money on each other. There are lots of ways to do that. Be creative.Have we perverted Christmas into a time to hole up with your nuclear family and celebrate excess and riches?
We're not Christian, but my family has decided to estimate what we would have spent on gifts and donate that to Saint Jude's this year rather buy a bunch of junk for people for the holidays. We are only buying practical things for each other and gifting friends and extended family with baked goods and company.
You could try that.
I also recommend taking in a foster pet and training and vetting it to be re-homed rather than buying a new kitten or puppy for the holidays. More dogs and cats are put down between Thanksgiving and New Years than any other time of the year. That is caused by the number of animals dumped at that time and the fact that shelter volunteers need to take time off to be with family. The entire thing is based on a lie I am sorry. Nothing wrong with setting aside a day for your savior but the spirit of this holiday is so materialistic.
We should make another xmas and make it sometime in the spring/summer. I don't know why your celebrating his bday in the winter when all evidence points to another season.
But I don't know I guess if you and your family define xmas in another way beyond the corporate monstrosity that is widely spread you can do it. Have we perverted Christmas into a time to hole up with your nuclear family and celebrate excess and riches?
right! go out and worship the "rebirth" of the winter solstice sun, as it moves one degree north, bringing longer days. It's easy to spot where it will "rise" the "THREE KINGS" in Orion's belt "follow" the eastern star (surius) to the birthplace "sunrise" in the "house of bread" or BETHLEHEM located in the constellation Virgo or "virgin".
Oh i left out the part of the sun's (son's) death over the southern crux on the 22, 23 and 24th.Have we perverted Christmas into a time to hole up with your nuclear family and celebrate excess and riches? We can remember that Christmas is about the birth of Jesus Christ, who was born in Bethlehem.
On Christmas we celebrate the birthday of the Lord Jesus Christ, who came into the world to save us all from sin and death!
"There is salvation found in no other name, but the name of Jesus".
I agree with Raith on this. She is a self-described non-Christian, and what she says is true-it never was Christian. Google it. The first century Christians did not celebrate it as God did not tell others when Jesus was born.
So, what most people doen't even consider is: They have a choice.
They are in a box that says: “This is just what you do.” “ No, you have a choice.”
Are you sickened by all the “have-to” or “expected-to,” or the "I will be hurt or disappointed" games that surround this event?
I truly believe that the best, most precious gifts are out of love -- not out of obligation or coercion or what one will receive in return, but out of love. God demonstrated this kind of love for us in giving salvation from his Son's sacrifice.
Why would he approve what he did not even command?
Why would he approve what he did not even command?? The birthday celebration is also non-Christian, that is, it has pagen roots. .
Also, calling it the birth of Christ does not sanctify it or make it approved by God.
When Moses received the covenant on Mt. Sinai, his people celebrated a "Festival to Jehovah" [Ex. 32-5]. Because it involved idolatry %26amp; false worship, God disciplined unrepentant wrongdoers by opening up the earth to swallow them.
Make the right choice of giving God the respect he deserves. Imitate his love. Sactify his most Holy name by choosing wisely.Have we perverted Christmas into a time to hole up with your nuclear family and celebrate excess and riches?
You say that like it would be a bad thing.
Christmas never really was a Christian thing. It was a pagan festival of excess and riches long before you got your hooks into it.
I never got into the Christian aspects of Christmas. I preferred the original Pagan meanings, not the thieves who stole the holiday.Have we perverted Christmas into a time to hole up with your nuclear family and celebrate excess and riches?
No kidding!! (GET RID OF ALL THE 'STUFF'!!) Al it is, is commercialism anyway and that is why I DON'T celebrate 'it'! I only 'remember' my Sweet Lord and Saviour and set apart a 'time' for Him only!
Turn it back into the pagan holiday it was before christians stole it.
The answer is in your hands, your family, and your example
It was never Christian to begin with.
