just get a tree to fit your space! less is more! i have a tiny fiber optic tree on top of my old record player. it glitters in different rotating colors!

also you could make the big splash in the yard and not indoors. What does the Christmas tree replace? Why buy a tree so large as to leave you no room to move? Get a small tree, 3 to 4 foot tall. You can set it on top of a table, and need move only accessory pieces. What does the Christmas tree replace?
One year I put the Christmas tree in the livingroom and moved the love seat to the kitchen. With a love seat in the kitchen friends and family sit and talk to me while I cook. It was really fun! What does the Christmas tree replace?
My tree occupies part of a space where a big wooden rocker lives the rest of the year. The rocker just moves across the room. The tree stands in a wide doorway between my living room and the sun room, sort of to the side where it doesn't block traffic, and can be seen from both rooms. There is not a feeling of wall-to-wall furniture. It used to go in a corner where a loveseat usually stood, and I would take the loveseat out to my glassed in porch for December.

Sometimes it is just a matter of rearranging the furniture so that there is a space for the tree, and maybe you wouldn't have to take anything out after all.
