Are atheists destroying the Christmas spirit during the holidays?

It seems like "Christ" and the true meaning of Christmas is being watered down, because of

commercialism and the backlash of receding faith, in God. Just because you atheists have

nothing concrete in your spiritual lives, doesn't give you the license to destroy other peoples

religious traditions. Try telling any Jewish individual that their beliefs and traditions should be

watered down. You have a lot of nerve. Are atheists destroying the Christmas spirit during the holidays? So, you are saying it's all atheists out there crowding the mall? What about the Christians saying Christmas is all about baby Jesus while maxing out their credit cards and buying made-in-China replicas of Pagan inspired items as families sleep on the streets? What does atheism have to do with people making Christmas the holiday of greed and materialism? Every blatant materialist consumerist I know self identifies as Christian.

The majority of Americans are out celebrating a secular holiday. That includes Christians. Complaining about the maybe 1% of atheists (atheists making up maybe, possibly up to 10% of the US population) that vocally object to spending tax money on manger scenes isn't going to do much to turn Christmas into a religious holiday again. You'll need to do something about the over 200million Christians in America that are treating Christmas as a secular holiday.

It was a Pagan holiday, once upon a time. Almost all of the traditional trappings of Christmas are from the original Pagan celebrations. The trees, the wreaths of Holly and pine, the Yule log, the elves, the kissing balls, the singing and drinking, and the giving of presents - all come from earlier religions' traditions. It's cool that Christians decided to allow the Pagan converts to keep their winter celebrations along with their traditional trappings but there's no reason atheists, Jews, Pagans, Muslims, or Hindus shouldn't be allowed to celebrate the Pagan winter holidays, too.

In the source(s) below is a link to a satire called "A Very Atheist Christmas" which pokes fun at the idea that Christmas, with its reindeer and mistletoe is a purely Christian holiday. Are atheists destroying the Christmas spirit during the holidays?
To the comment so audaciously placed under the "Asker's Rating", I mourn your ineptitude in the apostrophe's death in your vocabulary- symbolic of your mind, I may conclude.

Are atheists destroying the Christmas spirit during the holidays?Even though it shouldn't have been, Christmas for a lot of people doesn't immediately warrant the thought 'Christ' because of all the commercialism Christmas gets. So taking Merry Christmas away and replacing it with Happy Holidays seem just stupid because non-Christians have already taken away the Christ part anyway and made it all about presents.

That seems the big one. But as far as I know, towns still put up trees and lights and decorations, and no one's seemed to challenge that yet.

So yeah, they kind of are. But they already killed it a long time ago making it all about everything BUT Christ. Are atheists destroying the Christmas spirit during the holidays?
I agree with serf! Im atheist. I dont believe in christ. That doesnt mean that I dont believe in Christmas. A person can be spiritual without being religious. Christmas is in my heart. I love celebrating christmas as a time for my family to gather and to express our love through gifts and memories. I have to agree... your beliefs are obviously not that strong if you can let other people water them down... that doesnt make sense. Are atheists destroying the Christmas spirit during the holidays?Just what do you think is the true meaning of Christmas, seeing that it has nothing to do with when you believe Jesus was born

Did you feel the same when you learned the truth about Santa Clause? Are atheists destroying the Christmas spirit during the holidays?
The 'true meaning of Christmas' has nothing to do with religion. It's a traditional mid-winter festival that goes back thousands of years before Christianity was invented. Are atheists destroying the Christmas spirit during the holidays?
If me not believing in Jesus makes you less able to enjoy the holiday, I would say that your Christmas spirit was pretty weak to begin with.
