silicon is in abundance in the planet and solar energy is a solution to the environmental problem so why not make solar panels cheap and installed on every rooftopHow come industries are not pursuing solar panels since there are millions of roofs in the planet?You have the right idea, and we're moving towards that, but it's hard to see the gradual progress. Costs are still high, but coming down.
30 years ago, the IBM/370 at our college cost millions of dollars, but now, a PC with more computing power than that can't even be donated to an elementary school, because it's too weak. Solar cells were $100 / watt when I was in school, and now they're $4 / watt, and falling.
Believe me, all the manufacturers are quite conscious of cost. Whoever produces reliable cells at lowest cost will win.
